The cave dwelling

PDF Print E-mail

The Cave Dwelling is a place that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the world of Matera before the law of 1952, commissioned by Alcide De Gasperi.

The humble home of people of Matera was provided of few furnishings, now full of meaning, a table with one dish from which all the family ate, the bed that was usually very high to protect people from moisture, but also to have space below to preserve something or to take care of even a hen with chicks, the "cantero" which was used as a bathroom and the donkey that provided heat and was an excellent transport.

This way of life apparently so distant to us instead belongs completely to the young generation of Matera, because my generation comes from that world, because the grandparents and the parents of many of us had really lived in the "cave houses". The atmosphere inside is really exciting historically and humanly.
